Not quite, but Id think that every time I saw a train pass between a pair of signals like this. Train 164 rolls south behind a pair of GEs at the old signal 108 just south of Bainbridge. Note the CNJ style numbers on the engine. |

Train 164 is high enough on the famous steel bridge to catch the sun, even though the valley has gone into shadow. |

Past the mill |
Description: |
And almost home. Train 252 rolls past the Agway mill at the south end of Bevier St. All he has to do now is get his 76 cars across the Tier at BD, and he can get into East Binghamton and call it quits for the day. |

Tunnel of trees |
Description: |
One of the things brought about by all the rain we got in the Binghamton area was a proliferation of trees. Coming through the tunnel of trees, about to enter the real Belden Tunnel, is 164, about to start its descent into Binghamton. |

Out of the tunnel |
Description: |
The 164 we saw from on high is now clearing the Belden Tunnel, and will be in Binghamton in about 15 minutes as it eases 3 stack platforms and 97 freight down the hill. CP has assigned a GE to the train this day, an increasingly common occurrence. |

Through the trees |
Description: |
A northbound 8858 coal train grinds up the hill toward the tunnel, peeking out from the trees at Depot Hill Rd. The difference between winter and summer is apparent here. In the winter, you can see the train stretched out down the hill. In the summer, hardly at all. |

A location not often seen, probably due to other more scenic/interesting locations being available, is at Hancock Rd in Santiaria Springs. Here we see CP 413 working its way to the tunnel on a summer morning. |

Clean power |
Description: |
This unit got repainted about four times over the 15 years I saw it on the Tier. Here it is in the "golden rodent" scheme, leading 75 cars of train 413 north at Nowlan Rd. Note the pilot is cut out on the edges so it can run on Metro North, which CP was doing at the time, with trains 416/417 from Saratoga to Fresh Pond. |
