Gift From Doyle
Title:  Gift From Doyle
Description:  This canteen car coupled right behind the Empress is in CP paint but still bears the reporting marks of the Friends of the 4449. A gift from Doyle McCormack, who is also assisting with the Empress herself.

Love Those Covered Wagons
Title:  Love Those Covered Wagons
Description:  Man are F-units classy! Please, please keep these babies in CP paint, CPKC. All you gotta do is add a little "CPKC" logo or something to keep 'em current.

"Everybody's Crazy About A Steam-Powered Train"
Title:  "Everybody's Crazy About A Steam-Powered Train"
Description:  With apologies to ZZ Top, "Everybody's crazy about a steam-powered train." The Empress sure brought the folks out to Union Depot this day!

State Fair Worthy
Title:  State Fair Worthy
Description:  A State Fair-worthy crowd had quickly fathered by the Empress by the time I drew close on the platform at SPUD. Getting the signals at left was a lucky nice touch.

A Closer Look
Title:  A Closer Look
Description:  The crowd thinned like a parting fog bank just enough for me to get closer to the Empress for this shot.

Can Pac Covered Wagon
Title:  Can Pac Covered Wagon
Description:  Love those CP covered wagons CPKC brought with the Empress. I sure hope they keep the classic CP paint.

The "Bonfield"
Title:  The "Bonfield"
Description:  Second to last car on the "Final Spike" train is the "Bonfield". I do not yet know this car's number or heritage, but it sure looks snappy!

CP Canteen
Title:  CP Canteen
Description:  This canteen car accompanying the Empress is CPKC's own canteen car dating back to the engine's first runs on the then-Canadian Pacific.

The "Stanford Fleming"
Title:  The "Stanford Fleming"
Description:  Theater car "Stanford Fleming" is, perhaps fittingly, the car that is bringing up the markers on the "Final Spike" train. If you look real close, you can see this baby has an air horn on it. An air horn that was used to greet me, my chase buddy Brandon, and several other railfans (including two from, fittingly enough, British Columbia) west of Loretto the day before!

Close As I Could Get
Title:  Close As I Could Get
Description:  I failed to reach Union Depot at an early hour this day, which meant all the parking was either taken or vanishing fast as melting snow. Fortunately, after stumbling about I came upon this vantage point north of the station's spur track which afforded me a brief stop to take a few pics. This was the first.

Best Shot
Title:  Best Shot
Description:  This was the best shot I got of the North Pole Express 2024 in a sequence of three. My location just north of the Union Depot spur upon which the NPE operates was due to lack of parking closer by, but never, ever underestimate a railfan's resourcefulness and tenactiy! :-)
