Album Info:Delaware River Rail Excursions operates a tourist train that runs south out of Phillipsburg, NJ along the tracks of the ex-PRR Belvidere and Delaware (Bel-Del) branch line. The trains are operated and staffed by members of the New York Susquehanna and Western Technical and Historical Society, and NYS&W Steam Locomotive #142 is often operated as the motive power. Via off-season track work sessions, the NYS&WTHS keeps adding to the trackage over which the train operates, with the eventual goal of reaching the east end of the Riegelsville (Roebling) Bridge. The current end-of-operating track has been pushed south of Pincher’s Point Curve, with another mile and a quarter of track rehab left to go before reaching the planned southern terminus of the excursion route. I took my three and a half year old grandson for a ride on the first train of the day, then we chased the second train. River Road closely parallels the tracks through Carpentersville / Pohatcong Township, which makes chasing / pacing the train easy and enjoyable. Delaware River Rail Excursions hosts frequent family-friendly theme trains, including Thomas the Tank Engine, Dinosaur Train, the Mine Train, the Corn Maze Train, Halloween trains, and Polar express trains. Both the ride and the ensuing chase were big hits with my grandson.
