Dutch door view |
Description: |
Back in the day, most long distance equipment had Dutch doors, which allowed one to stand in the vestibule and get a fresh air ride. It was also great for checking out the train. Here the return trip has left Selkirk and is now heading south on the River Line. It will stop shortly for a run by. |

Run by |
Description: |
The southbound trip did a runby at New Baltimore, the only one on the trip. The weather was dismal, and the timing was also an issue, so this was the only one. It was well attended. |

Hudson River Streamliner |
Description: |
Tri State NRHS rana trip in August 1985 that ran from Newark Penn Station to Shell tower in New Rochellle NY, changed power to three CR B23s, then ran to Mott Haven, around the wye and up the Hudson to Castleton, where it went up the connection and across the river to Selkirk. Following a shop tour, the train returned to Jersey via the River Line. It was an interesting route, and was well patronized. We see the crowd returning to the train after the Conrail tour at Selkirk. |

Drop table |
Description: |
Visitors to the Selkirk shop were treated to a tour of the facilities. One of the more interesting ones was the drop table, where axle change outs are made. Here an axle is dropped on SD40-2 6523 |

Turbo |
Description: |
Turbochargers are a VERY expensive item, due to their blades and need for delicate balance in order to work properly and not blow themselves to bits and the high revolutions they turn. This one is $28K-30 years ago. |
