Album Info:These are five older b&w photos 2 1/2 x 4" in size of Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Rwy steam locomotives. Several were marked with 25¢ price on the back - probably were sold at a train show at one time.

Description:  Good looking Alco-Brooks 2-8-2 Mikado EJE #734 sits in the Waukeegan yard in its prime working days. The loco was built in March of 1916 and eventually was retired and scrapped in December of 1949. Specs - serial #55743, 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 313,9600 lb, tractive effort of 58,707 lb. Unknown photographer in

EJE 2-8-2 #721 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rwy
Title:  EJE 2-8-2 #721 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rwy
Description:  Built by Alco-Brooks in March of 1916, this versatile 2-8-2 Mikado #721 hauled the steel around the Calumet region until being retired in June of 1948, a few months earlier than this photo. It was sold to the Purdy Co for scrap. One interesting note is it had the Miller Train Control installed for operating on C&EI. Specs - serial #55730, 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 313,9600 lb, tractive effort of 58,707 lb. Unknown photographer

Description:  This 2-8-2 Mikado was built by Alco-Brooks in March of 1916 as E&&E #730. It worked the steel yards and connecting points until being retired in September of 1948 and sold for scrap to the Purdy Co. EJE 0-8-0 #579 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rwy
Title:  EJE 0-8-0 #579 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rwy
Description:  This beefy 0-8-0 yard switcher started life out as Chicago, Lake Shore & Eastern Rwy 2-8-0 #579 (serial #44414). Records show that this was scrapped in September of 1948, the same date as this photo so this may be the last time it was seen before the scrapper's torch. No photographer was listed. built by Alco-Pittsburgh in August of 1907. After the CLS&E was merged into the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern that same year, this loco fell on the EJE roster. In April of 1931, it was converted to the 0-8-0 you see here.

Title:  EJE 2-8-2 #738 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rwy
Description:  A pair of sister 2-8-2 Mikados built by Aclo-Brooks in March of 1918 sit side by side in the Joliet yard. EJE #738 lasted until being sold to the Purdy Co as scrap in September of 1948, the month of the photo. This may be the last photo that was ever taken of this and EJE 743 who was also sold at the same time. #739 Specs - serial #58214, 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 313,9600 lb, tractive effort of 58,707 lb. #743 - serial #58218.
