Album Info:I decided to take a trip up to the Chicago Line today in search for some nice leaves to frame trains against. However, the changes weren't in full affect yet and I didn't get all the color I wanted. However, I did grab a fair amount of trains and traffic was heavy most of the day. Enjoy!

Description:  Good morning from Kendallville, Indiana! I decided to take a day on the mainlines to see if I could find any leaves beginning to change colors. I started my day before sunrise in Kendallville and already NS was quite busy. NS 23M begins the day racing west toward Chicago.

Title:  PREX 907
Description:  NS got quiet so I figured it was worth driving two miles to the Kraft Marshmallow Factory to see if the KTR was up to anything. Sure enough they were, just getting ready to begin a day of switching. Recently, PREX 907 had been moved off the MSO to here to work alongside PREX 16. The crew truck sits beside the engines, as I would assume most of the work that would be done today would be activating this engine.

Description:  NS got fairly quiet so I decided to cut down to CSX to see if there was any color along the tracks at Bluegrass Cut west of Albion. There was some change, but not a lot. CSX did have a westbound lined so I decided to wait on it. After about 15 minutes of waiting, CSX Q560 came around the corner continuing west.

Title:  NS 8078
Description:  I heard the Toledo West dispatcher give a Box 2 and Box 3 to some maintenance crew around the Ligonier area on NS, so I decided to make my way back. Sure enough, crawling west was a ballast cleaner, working nonetheless. I settled down at Elkhart CR 33 to get some shots of it working. NS 294 had a slow order by the men and equipment but still made it to the crossing and cleared the crossing before the ballast cleaner hit.

Description:  Usually I dont like it when they put Cab Signal Compliant Leaders on the point of foreign unit trains in Elkhart. However, sometimes there are exceptions to that. NS 48A, a worm train from the BNSF, comes east with a SD40E tacked on the point followed by 3 BNSF GEVOs.

Description:  With the effects of PSR coming into a noticeable full swing, many fans tend to now avoid the Chicago Line because lots of the older or foreign power that once ran trains have now been changed out with the newer GE and EMD power. However, this one is one of the oddball. An SD70MAC leader on westbound Detroit Edison Coal Empties NS 881. STILL in its former BN Cream n Green Paint. The first one of these that Ive shot leading a train in several years. The SD70MACs are not as old as some of the power that used to and still runs this line on occasion, but as PTC requirements grow, a lot of these have been sidelined. But every so often, one or two seem to sneak out and be put on the lead of trains. This one was an exception, and easily the catch of the day. I framed with with the hidden Millersburg Grain elevator, as most of the leaves had not changed in this spot yet.

Title:  CSX 9034
Description:  After NS 67Z, NS got very quiet and the sun was beginning to go down, so I decided to hop back down to Bluegrass to see if anything would show up. An eastbound intermodal began peeping on the radio, and after some waiting, CSX Q172 busted around the curves with a recently reactivated YN2 Dash 9 on the point. A great way to close the day! Didnt get all the color I had hoped for, but I got some pretty good catches and saw 33 trains (30 photographed) in total!
