Title: |
BO 4-6-0 #2028 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
This 4-6-0 ten wheeler was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in August of 1901 as a cross-compound loco with the high pressure cylinder mounted on the right side and the low pressure cylinder on the left. The B&O Shops first rebuilt it as a simple expansion engine and reclassified as B-18a. Then later they rebuilt it by adding a superheater, piston valves and a Baker valve gear. After nearly 52 years of dedicated service to the B&O, this loco was was sent to the scrapper's torch in December of 1953. Rebuilt specs - 70" drivers, impressive 200 psi boiler pressure, 21x28" cylinders, engine weight of 173,400 lb and tractive effort of 30,000 lb. This is a Max Miller photo. |
