Here is page 15 of a 17-page version of the Pennsylvania Railroad's 13-page booklet entitled "Altoona Shops Inspection Trip ~ Sunday, May 16, 1937." It appeared in the September 1981 issue of "The Keystone" magazine, page 18. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "From a 'Fan's' perspective, E-3sd No. 5011 was perhaps the most interesting locomotive on display at Altoona. No. 5011 was one of the few, and very likely the only, E-3sd's to retain the old style cylinders while being equipped with the new steel pilot beam." #5011 is an E-3SD (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as an E-3D during 1910, rebuilt as an E-3SD in June of 1913, and retired in April of 1940. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Assigned to the Altoona Works, No. 436 was one of several B-8a's employed in the Altoona area." #436 is a B-8A (0-6-0T) tank switcher built in Juniata as a Class B during 1912, rebuilt as a B-8A in June of 1924, and retired in October of 1956 after 44 years of faithful service. PRR 4-4-2 #5175 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:
Built by the Altoona Juniata Shops and delievered in August of 1908, this class E-3d Atlantic eventually was upgraded to a E-3sd class unit. Here it heads up "The Local" as the note by photographer Warren W. McCleary, Jr. The loco was finally retired in November of 1935. Interesting note on the back also lists it as "an approved photo from the Lacaster Ry Loco. Hist. Soc." No date was given for this photo so an approximate one was used.

Interesting reprint of an iconic Altoona Juniata Shops built 4-4-2 delivered in 1902. According to several sources, this loco set an unofficial speed record of 127.1 mph in a westbound run in June of 1905 of the crack Pennsylvania Special while near Elida, Ohio. Here is a postal card entitled "World'sßEastest Locomotive. Pennsylvania Railroad's No. 7002 ~ Record 127.1 Miles an Hour. Chicago Railroad Fair 1949.'" No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "The world's fastest-run by a railroad train was made by the 'Broadway Limited' of the Pennsylvania Railroad on Monday, June 12,1905, when it ran 127.1 miles an hour between AY Tower and Elnda, Ohio. The 'Broadway Limited' was pulled by coal-burning steam Locomotive 7002 ~ and although many swift runs have been made in recent years by steam, electric, and diesel locomotives, none has equallef the 127.1 mile-an-hour record established in 1905. At the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1949, Locomotive 7002 stands on a section of P.R.R. standard roadbed with rails weiguing 155 pounds to the yard ~ heaviest in the world."
