Description:  Built in 1953 by Budd in Lot #9601-135 as AT&SF baggage-express-messenger #3512, 1 of 40 such cars (#3500-#3539) built in that Lot, which was ordered in September 1952; cars were delivered between June and December 1953. In 1971, Amtrak acquired 34 of the 40 cars as #1020-#1053; the #3512 as #1029. Between 1977 and 1980, Amtrak converted 33 of the 34 cars to HEP; the #1029 was converted to #1219 in May 1978. In 2001, Amtrak modified 3 of the cars from this Lot for use on the TWILIGHT SHORELINER as #1855-#1857; the #1219 as #1856, which was retired and stored in January 2005. The #1856 was later 1 of 3 stored baggage cars selected for modification to display cars for the 40TH ANNIVERSARY TRAIN; the #1856 was selected for modification to the #10095 in January 2011.
