EL F3 8051
Erie Lackawanna F3 8051 at about 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois on October 31, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in July 1947 (c/n 4096) on EMD Order E760A as Erie F3A 805A, it became EL 8051 sometime after the October 17, 1960 merger. It has an unusual mix of small numberboards and two carbody portholes.

The renumbering practice at the time of the merger was to substitute numbers 1 through 4 for suffix letters A through D, so, 805A became 8051, 805B became 8052, and so on.

Tony Held General What a lovely E-L F-unit! Nice photo. Crying shame the E-L didn't survive ... 2/28/2009 10:49:39 PM
Fred Stuckmann General I'm with you on that Richard. Thanks Chuck for your many EL posts. It was kind of hairy to have to walk to the next unit while you were in notch 8. You had to walk between the engine and the outside wall. Not much room to spare. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. 3/30/2009 8:25:30 PM
