Delivered to Colorado & Southern as SD40 880 in April 1968 in full CB&Q paint, this unit would become BN 6340 after the merger, then to EMD as EMDX 6340 then rebuilt by Electro Motive to demonstrate older unit renewal programs. During the rebuild this SD40 traded the standard SD40 Flexicoil-C trucks for HT-Cs, electrical upgrades, and microprocessor controls installed by VMV resulting in this unit being called an SD40-3MPR. The HT-C trucks and EMD paint job makes it hard to tell this unit was originally delivered as an SD40, in this photo EMDX 2000 is idling in BNSF Alliance Yard in Haslet after delivering a manifest drag. After the demonstration tour was over this unit was sold to Portland & Western and currently works as PNWR 3300 in GWI corporate orange and black. |
