Wye Switches. Here is fourth of seven successive original photos that I took at the Wye Switches in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, on 5 October 1964. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8564, an ES-15M road switcher built by GM-EMD in September of 1953 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. It's pulling a 34-car freight train from the Altoona Yards to the Hollidaysburg Yards. The cabin car is #477632. In this context, the Fireman has just received train orders from the WYE Tower Operator. When the end of the train and the cabin car reach this point, the train's Conductor will also receive orders by the same means. |
