Seaboard Systen job Y104 was approaching the end of double track on the Norfolk Southern's OUTER BELT. Just ahead is the bridge over the 17th Street Canal, which contributed to the flooding of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. This signal bridge was erected in 1983, when CTC was extended westward from East City Junction to Metairie Road. Before then, this was a spring switch. Y104 was on its way from the SBD's GENTILLY YARD to the Southern Pacific at the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge, and the power was SP SD45R's 7409, 7402 and 7411. |
