| Autumn officially arrives on NJ Transit when the "AquaTrain" hits the rails. Think of it as a gigantic power washer that's sprays extremely high-pressure water at the head of the rails. This washes away the oily residues left behind by crushed leaves and blows those that haven't been crushed away to fight the delays and damages caused by wheelslip. This odd looking train can be found running almost 24 hours a day from the beginning of October to the middle of December on the Hoboken Division. It spends most of its time on the former Lackawanna electrified lines but does occasionally wander over to the Erie side. The Newark division has their own based out of Raritan that runs Monday-Friday and occasionally visits the North Jersey Coast Line on weekends. |
