The Veterans of the Rails
Two examples from NJ Transit's once large fleet of GP40 rebuilds sit side-by-side on 2 Depot at Hoboken Terminal. The two engines were both born in LaGrange, IL in October of 1968. One a GP40P for the CNJ, the other a GP40 for the Penn Central. The came together on the same roster following heavy rebuilds in the mid-90s at the Juniata Locomotive Shops. Rebuilds that made them look nearly identical until 2019 when the 4109 received its CNJ heritage paint.
