NYC 4-6-4 #5339 - New York Central
Nice original action photo by an unidentified photographer of New York Central 4-6-4 Hudson #5339 highballing along the open flat tracks near Castle Point, NY, without cumbrance of a trailing train. Built by Alco-Schenectady in May of 1931, this loco is now just broken in after 2 years of service under its belt. Specs - serial #68575, J-1e class, 79" drivers, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 358,600 lb.

Railside Alex General I believe this is a J-1e, as NYC numbers 5315-5344 and 5395-5404 were J-1e’s. This is a spectacular photo, and one of my favorite shots of my all-time favorite locomotives. 10/18/2021 10:46:37 PM
