LIRR 101, H-10S, c. 1945
The electrified third-rail at the far right of this photo suggests that this is a Long Island Rail Road scene. Mr. Robert Hess writes that "Enlarging this photo, the number plate on the smokebox front appears to show the engine No. as 101. This would be Long Island RR H10s No. 101 ~ one of a group of 19 former P.R.R. H10s engines sold to the L.I.R.R. in 1928-29, and renumbered by the new owners in a block from 101 to 119. L.I.R.R. No. 101 was originally built by Baldwin in 1913 as P.R.R. H10s No. 7148 and was sold to the L.I.R.R. in July 1928. So this supports your comment regarding the location being on the Long Island RR, but I can't identify where this is myself." The photographer's name, the tower's identifier, the exact date, and the location are not recorded. ("KaseyJones999" B; #3 of 3)
