Description: |
Kansas City Southern GP40 751 was parked at WEST YARD, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in October 1968 as Penn Central 3174 (EMD 34615) and was acquired by the KCS in January 1984, after its initial 15-year lease expired. It was renumbered 4753 in early and was sent it to Morrison- Knudsen’s BOISE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP in September 1991 as partial payment for remanufacturing 16 GP40M-2’s into GP40’s 4780-4795. KCS No. 53 |
Description: |
Kansas City Southern train No. 53 originated in Dallas and terminated at the CSX on the east side of New Orleans. The train got from the KCS to the CSX by operating over the Norfolk Southern for about six miles. In this shot, an NS yard crew was relieving the KCS road crew at the Labarre Road grade crossing in the suburb of Metairie for the trip to Louisa Street, where a CSX crew would bring the train into their yard. At this time No. 53 frequently ran with two geeps and a road slug, but this train had GP40’s 751, 784 and 755. |
