RDG 803
Title:  RDG 803
Description:  Reading Company EPa 803 and 838 at Lansdale, Pennsylvania on an unknown day in April 1962, Ektachrome by R. S. Short, Chuck Zeiler collection. These cars were built in or around 1931 by the Harlan and Hollingsworh Division of Bethlehem Steel. They were classed EPa, 72 feet 5 inches in length, weighed 70 tons, and had a capacity of 86 passengers. One truck, slightly longer that the other truck (both are of an unusual Taylor design), was powered with two 300 horsepower motors. The item over the headlight was a bus jumper, allowing the collected current of 11,000 volts to be passed from car to car, permitting the use of just two pantographs per train, reducing wear on both the pantograph and overhead wire.
