FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania. Photo Caption: "A K-4 Pacific giving a diesel a boost up to Gallitzin. Train No. 13. Fall, 1950." Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3874, #5851, and an E-7 "B" unit whose road number is not recorded. #3874 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in June of 1923 and retired in April of 1956. #5851 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 HP. This photo comes from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-25). |

Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Pennsylvania EP-20's 5851 & 5868." Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania EP-20's 5851 & 5868. An A-B-A set of EP-20's [at the left] eases a passenger train out of Union Station and through the crossovers at Chicago on June 29, 1957. The five-stripe EP-20 5851 led the consist past another set of EP-20's on its eastbound trip on a clear day in the 'Windy City.' Originally delivered in Brunswick Green, the EP-20's had been repainted to match the passenger cars. Photo by David R. Sweetland." All six of the PRR locomotives pictured here are EP-20's rated at 2,000 horsepower each. Of those six, two are identifiable: #5851 and #5868. #5851 was constructed in August of 1947, while #5868 was built in April of 1949. |
