| Milwaukee 2-8-2 Mikado #538 was just retired a month earlier than this photo so it was found in the scrap line at the Bensenville yard. History - Baldwin, 11/1920 serial #54036 class L-2a nee-MILW 8238, renumbered in 6/1938 to MILW 538. After nearly 33 years of service the loco was retired in December of 1953 and eventually scrapped. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
