These are all Milwaukee Road class L-2a 2-8-2 Mikados in the 500 number range. All but one of the photos were taken at the Bensenville, IL, yard. No photographer was listed for any of these photos. The photos missing from this large group were re-posted on 2/28/2025 after the RRPA crash.

MILW 2-8-2 #519 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Long before an SD unit used the MILW number 519, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Originally built as MILW 8219 in October of 1920, it was renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 519. After nearly 33 years of service, the loco was retired in June of 1953 and eventually scrapped. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed.

Description:
Milwaukee Road 2-8-2 Mikado #571 is still active at this late date. Most of its sister Mikados have been retired or at least sitting in the storage/scrap line. History - Baldwin, 11/1920 serial #54158 class L-2a nee-MILW 8271, renumbered in 6/1938 to MILW 571. The loco was retired and scrapped in December of 1954. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

MILW 2-8-2 #593 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
A few months from when this photo was taken, MILW #593 will be retired in September of 1953. Right now it has a head of steam and still able to serve. Originally built by Baldwin in January of 1921 as MILW 8293, the 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive was renumbered in June of 1938 as MILW 593. The loco served the Milwaukee Road for nearly 52 years before being retired in September of 1953 and scrapped.Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. Having just been declared retired in the month of April in 1954, this 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive still looks like would like to keep working. Built by Baldwin in January of 1921 as MILW #8296, it was later renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 596. After nearly 33 years of service, the loco was moved from the active to the scrap side of the roster in April of 1954. MILW 2-8-2 #516 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Still looking sharp in this July 1954 photo, MILW 2-8-2 Mikado #516 was originally built in October of 1920 as MILW #8216. It was renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 519. The loco served until being retired once on 7/21/1950. Due to a need for power, it was re-instated on 8/30/1950. The loco faced its second and final retirement leading to scrapping in December of 1954. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed.
